New to the District
The Allegheny Valley School District is currently working on several new initiatives for the 2011-2012 school year.
♦ Focus on Reading & Writing
Allegheny Valley will partner with The Western Pennsylvania Writing Project to systematize writing and provide universal writing expectations in all curricular areas. The organization will provide professional development to help staff systematize writing and provide universal writing expectations. Staff members will also continue their research of best practices and resources in reading/language arts.
♦ School-wide Positive Behavior Management Program
The program, begun last year at Acmetonia Primary School, will expand and extend through Colfax Upper Elementary School. A School-wide Positive Behavior Management plan is a way to create, teach, and reinforce learning skills in students. The program incorporates social, emotional, and academic skills to help students become an effective member of the community. The goal is to provide a consistent and positive school culture for all students and staff.
♦ Cost Containment Committee
To find creative and effective ways to cut costs throughout the District, Allegheny Valley has established a Cost Containment Committee. Staff members meet throughout the school year to suggest, brain-storm, and carry out effective ways to reduce spending. All areas and departments of the school system are open for changes and suggestions. For additional information, please see the Cost Containment page of the web site.
