Communicating with Technology

The District currently uses the following means to communicate with various groups:

1. District’s Web Site
- Administrator/Announcement pages
- Contact Us Section
- Anonymous Alert
- Announcements from the Superintendent page
- Staff Only Section

2. eMail
Accounts provided to all staff members and recently established for all School Board members.  The accounts allow for communication among staff, throughout buildings, and from parents and community members.

3. Parent Portal - eSchoolbook
With a user ID and password, parents and students can access student grades, attendance, and homework information.  All parents with students in grades 4-12 can access the system.  IDs and passwords are provided to parents when a student enters grade 4 or when students transfer into the District.

4. Global Connect
Used for emergencies or in the event of a major disruption to the school day, this system allows the District to call all parents, staff, and emergency personnel in minutes.  Parents are asked to provide the contact information and all numbers are entered into a database by secretaries.  The database is then divided by building, by staff and student, and by grade level to utilize as needed.

5. DYNAmail
A listserve, this new initiative allows individuals to register through the web site to receive information about the District.  The information can be sent from any administrator on programs, events, and other happenings with the buildings and around the District.

6. PayForIt
The program is a convenient, secure way to apply funds to a child’s account and check that account balance. PayForIt.net accepts credit card prepayments 24 hours a day with an automated update to the point-of-sale system at the school. Registration and credit card information is protected with the most advanced Internet security.  The District provided this program to make it easier for parents to control their child’s cafeteria account.

7.  eNewsletters

Electronic newsletters are currently being introduced to several groups in the District.  Last year the District began distributing eNotes to provide information to the District’s Key Communicator group.  Professional Times @ AVSD gives information to staff on the areas of curriculum and staff development. Additional newsletters are planned to be added in the near future.
