Programs for Community Members
Community Advisory Committees
At times, the District will ask for volunteers from the community to serve on an advisory committee. The committee is usually charged to provide information on a specific issue that has come to light and on which the School Board and/or Administration would like to have more input from the community. The committee can be as large or small as the District wishes, but the membership should reflect a cross-section of the community. These Advisory Committees are given specific instructions for a final product and are chaired by a member of the District or community-at-large. Requests from committee members usually are published in the District's newsletter, the web site, and/or the local newspaper.
Senior Citizens Luncheon
Each fall, the Allegheny Valley School District hosts a luncheon for resident Senior Citizens. All District seniors are welcome to attend free of cost, but are asked to reserve a seat so that the appropriate number of meals can be on hand. Students from both Springdale Jr-Sr High School and Colfax Upper Elementary School play a major role in the luncheon. They serve as greeters, food service helpers, and entertainers for the event. The luncheon is advertised in the local newspaper, on the District's web site, at the local Senior Citizens Center, the message board, and by word of mouth throughout the District.
Community Budget Sessions
Each year, the Allegheny Valley School District holds two sessions to provide members of the community with information on the District's budget process. One session gives statistics on the District's revenue picture; the other furnishes information on expected expenditures. These meetings are attended by the members of the School Board and residents are welcome to make comments and provide opinions. The meetings are scheduled at the pleasure of the School Board and are announced at their monthly meetings. Information on the meetings is also posted on the District's web site and electronic message board.
Brick By Brick
In an effort to establish Veterans’ Stadium as an integral part of the District, Allegheny Valley launched Brick by Brick - Building our Future...Remembering our Past. This initiative is an effort to honor and memorialize local veterans, alumni, and other members of the community by selling personalized bricks that become a permanent part of Veterans’ Stadium.
